Par l’utilisation d’un détecteur à hautes fréquences, Julie Semoroz extrait les ondes électromagnétiques des réseaux et antennes environnants. Il en émerge un matériau sonore brut, lui-même façonné, contrôlé et redéployé dans l’espace, rendant perceptible l’incessant bombardement d’interférences auxquelles est soumis l’homme civilisé.

Using a high-frequency detector, Semoroz extracts the electromagnetic waves of the surrounding networks and antennas. The result is raw sound material, which is then shaped, controlled and broadcast again. The endless interference which contemporary mankind is subjected to is thus made perceptible.

FR | Emma Souharce vit avec ses instruments électriques et électroniques qu’elle transforme et manipule tantôt comme des jouets, tantôt comme des outils de décomposition massive. Avec une liberté de mouvement déconcertante, entre caresses lo-fi et hurlements de micro-machines, elle sculpte dans la matière sonore pour en extraire les plus subtiles harmonies et dissonances. A travers ses paysages à la physicalité turbulente et accidentée, cette alchimiste ritualiste travaille une transe issue d’une suite de mouvements intenses à la résolution bienveillante, avec la secrète ambition d’atteindre des états symbiotiques complets.

EN | Emma Souharce lives with her electric and electronic instruments which she transforms and manipulates sometimes like toys, sometimes like tools of massive decomposition. With a disconcerting freedom of movement, between lo-fi caresses and screams of micro-machines, she sculpts in the sound material to extract the most subtle harmonies and dissonances. Through its turbulent and rugged physical landscapes, this ritualist alchemist works a trance from a series of intense movements to benevolent resolution, with the secret ambition to reach complete symbiotic states.

FR | Dans la performance « Chaosphonies », Jérémy Chevalier a construit une machine d’instruments de musique. Tout seul, il donne un concert de rock.
Cet homme-orchestre d’un autre style transporte sa structure sur le dos. La grosse caisse, les cymbales ou encore la guitare jouent tous seuls. Les instruments suivent une partition automatisée. Elle est enrichie de bugs occasionnels, augmentant la confusion. L’artiste, lui, se retrouve désœuvré. Pourtant vous écoutez du véritable rock ! Une performance drôle, absurde et bruyante.
EN | In the performance « Chaosphonies », Jérémy Chevalier has created a music machine. It enables him to give a rock concert on his own.
This one-man-band of a different kind is carried on the back. The bass drum, cymbals, or even the guitar all play on their own. The follow an automated score embellished with the occasional bug, adding to the confusion. As a result, the artist finds himself with nothing to do. And yet you’re listening to real rock music! A funny, absurd and noisy performance.

FR | Julie Semoroz est chanteuse, artiste sonore et directrice de projets artistiques. Elle sculpte le son à l’aide de plusieurs sources telles que du field recordings, des micros en direct ainsi que sa voix avec des éléments software et hardware. Elle propose des pièces sonores comme des voyages intérieurs dans l’inconscient où l’on pénètre des zones d’ombres. Son travail interroge le rapport de l’individu au temps mécanique et organique dans ses pratiques corporels et questionne la société postindustrielle consumériste et les nouvelles technologies. Dans une recherche d’écologie au sens de « l’habitat », Julie Semoroz pose la question de comment habiter nos corps et nos vies dans la société.

Semoroz shapes sound using several sources such as field recordings, live microphones and her own voice with software and hardware. She offers sound pieces like inner journeys into the subconscious that penetrate into the darkness. Her work focuses on people’s individual relationship with mechanical and organic time. Her creations address new technologies and our post-industrial consumerist society. In her ecology-based research, in the sense of “habitat”, Julie Semoroz raises the question of how to experience our bodies and lives in the society.

Through her sound pieces, Geneva-based artist Emma Souharce develops a research related to the effect of frequencies on cerebral perception as well as the effect of the composition on the unconscious emotions and perception of time. It thus aspires to reach hypnopompesor hypnagogic states, at the limit between awakening and sleep, where thoughts are arranged by colliding.
In 2015, she co-founded the analogical-experimental band Biblioteq Mdulair (duo with Daniel Maszkowicz) with which she could play in Switzerland (LUFF – Lausanne, Lokal-int – Biel, Ausstellungsraum Klingental – Basel, Cave12 – Geneva, Südpol – Lucerne) and internationally (Stanislavsky Electrotheatre – Moscow, Visual Culture Research Center – Kiev, MIMStuudio – Tallinn, Akusmata – Helsinki, Palace of Science and Culture of Warsaw, Cinema Nova – Bruxelles, Alte Feuerwache – Köln). Biblioteq Mdulair released their very first album (co-produced by Copypasta Editions and Aussenraum Records) in may 2018 at Cave12-Geneva.
At the end of 2015, Emma Souharce obtains a creation grant by the FMAC-Geneva for her sound creation Par-Delà~Sorginak which began with a 6 months residency between Colombia and Ecuador, studying the links between music and rituals. Having performed in Switzerland (Geneva, Luzern, Fribourg, Bern, Lausanne, Zürich), France (Paris, Biarritz), New York, Eastern and Northern Europe on tour with the duo New Routines Every Day in may 2018, then in South-east Asia in march 2019 with Maszkowicz, Emma Souharce also created sound pieces for the research project Amenhotep (closed chamber used in psychiatry).
She is also implicated into collectives such as La Reliure, an association for artists residencies – organising the DAF festival once a year – and co-coordinate the production and edition house Copypasta Editions. In 2019, she’s also co-coordinated the BIG – Interstellar art spaces Biennale of Geneva.
In 2017 she obtains the Simon I. Patiño grant for a 6 months stay at la Cité internationale des arts in Paris and is currently in a research and creation residency at Nekatoenea, Hendaye, France.

Il est diplômé de la Haute école d’art et de design (HEAD) en 2007, sous la direction de Maria La Ribot et Yan Duyvendak.
La musique rock qu’il pratique constitue la première source d’inspiration de son travail de plasticien. Avec humour et dérision, ses objets, installations, performances et vidéos mettent en évidence les instruments, les outils, la gestuelle et les codes dont se sert l’industrie du spectacle, ainsi que les effets dérivés, les ratés, les accidents qu’elle suscite.
Il est titulaire des « Bourses déliées » en 2008, et son travail est représenté par la galerie « Skopia » à Genève depuis 2013. Son travail est souvent présenté en Suisse et en France comme au « Lieu Unique » à Nantes en 2015. En 2014, il est présenté au Japon dans l’exposition « Swiss Visual » à Kyoto, et en Chine à Wuhan dans le cadre des 50 ans de l’amitié France-Chine. En 2017 il performe en Lituanie lors du festival « Trys dienos // Trois jours » organisé par le « Théâtre de l’Usine de Genève » à Vilnius. Juin 2018 il participe au « Motonomy China tour » avec Julie Semoroz où il joua dans les ville de Beijing, Tayuan, Xi’an, Yivu, Xiamen and Shenzen, ainsi qu’à Hong Kong pour le projet « Sonic Amass » à la « Wing platform ». Dans une nouvelle exposition personnel en 2018 il présente la performance « Chaosphonies » qui sera par la suite montrée au « Festival de la Cité » à Lausanne la même année, ainsi qu’au « Belluard Bollwerk International » à Fribourg en 2019.

He practices rock music as a first source of inspiration. The objects he uses, the intallations he sets and his acting are full of humour and derision. His instruments, tools and gestures are borrowed from the entertainment industry together with its derivative effects, namely its mistakes and the accidents it arouses.
He is the holder of the « Bourses déliées » in 2008, and his work is represented by the gallery « Skopia » in Geneva since 2013. His work is often presented in Switzerland and France as at the « Lieu Unique » in Nantes in 2015.
